Guide to Remove IEAntivirus with Spyware Cease

0 comments Thursday, November 13, 2008

Operating System: Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista

Summary: IEAntivirus is rogue security software that comes into user’s PC system through Vundo Trojan, Virus or fake software, generating fake system warning alerts and fake scan results to deceive users into paying for its license. IEAntivirus comes from rogue antispyware programs such as MalwareBell, MalwareBell 3.2 and IE Defender. Not only does it cause your computer to slow down without explanation, it would also put your data and privacy in risk. We recommend you to run a scan of computer to detect any spyware threats.

Files associated with IEAntivirus

  • %UserProfile%\Desktop\IE AntiVirus 3.2.lnk
  • %UserProfile%\Start Menu\Programs\IE AntiVirus 3.2.lnk
  • %ProgramFiles%\IEAntiVirus\ieas.db2
  • %ProgramFiles%\IEAntiVirus\ieas.db3
  • %ProgramFiles%\IEAntiVirus\ieav.exe
  • %ProgramFiles%\IEAntiVirus\uninst.exe

Then, it will create the following registry entry so that it executes no matter when Windows starts up.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\”antispy” = “C:\Program Files\IEAntiVirus\ieav.exe”

Registry Subkeys Associated with IEAntivirus

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IEAntiVirus
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Bind
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\IE AntiVirus

Manually Removal of IEAntivirus

Note: SpywareCease. Com highly recommends you back up your computer before you modify anything. Incorrectly remove of registry files can lead to permanently loss of data.

1. Click Start Menu / Run

2. Enter regedit

3. Delete the following registry entry :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\”antispy” = “C:\Program Files\IEAntiVirus\ieav.exe”

4. Delete the registry subkeys below:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IEAntiVirus
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Bind
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\IE AntiVirus

However, manual removal of IEAntivirus may be difficult and you may run the risk of destroying your computer. Besides, you are always required to back up computer before any modify is made. To save time and avoid risking destroying your computer, we highly recommend you use a spyware scanner such as Spyware Cease, to detect IEAntivirus and other spyware, adware, Trojans, viruses, keyloggers, and more that sneak into your PC without your permission.

Windows Cannot Find Msconfig Fix

0 comments Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Following are the Causes:

  1. Msconfig.exe file is deleted due to file corruption, virus infection, or manually removed from its original folder.
  2. Its registry value was changed or removed.

Following methods can be tried to solve the issue:

Method 1:

  • See if your system still has msconfig.exe on it. By default, msconfig.exe is located in the C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries folder.
  • If it is missing on the folder, get a new copy of msconfig.exe file. Look for it on the internet through search engines and download it.
  • Once you get a copy of it, place the file on C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries folder.
  • Now, go to Start > Run and type msconfig and click OK.

If problem was not solved by the method 1, than go for Method 2.

Method 2:

  • Open Registry Editor and see if the value for msconfig has been changed or is missing.
  • To do this, Click Start > Run and type regedit then click OK.
  • On the left pane of Registry Editor, double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ App Paths
  • You should see a whole bunch of subfolders underneath for various applications. Look for MSCONFIG.EXE in that list.
  • If you do not see it, create it by right-clicking on App Paths and going to New --> Key.
  • You should now see a New Key #1. Change its name to MSCONFIG.EXE.
  • Once you have done this, highlight MSCONFIG.EXE and look at the right side.
  • In the Name column, you should see something with an "ab" icon that says (Default).
  • In the Type Column, it should say REG_SZ.
  • The Data column should have the correct path to the executable, C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe.
  • If it does not, you can double-click where it says (Default) and fill in the correct value.

How to fix computer hang frequently

0 comments Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Sometimes while working, The mouse freezes and the screen seems to have come to halt and also keyboard does not respond as well. This is generally a computer hang. Computer hangs because of Overheating of processor or Motherboard. If the cooling fan is faulty, the processor gets heated up and ceases to work beyond a particular temperature. Or may be due to Faulty hard drive hard disc problems also hangs the computers in case the important Operating System files needed to keep the computer running, become in-accessible.

To Fix the PC hangs (computer hang problem),you can follow two steps:

Step1: Check that the cooling fans on the processor is working properly or not. So ensure that the fan is working fine and is clean. If not, then get the fan replaced. Also check for the additional fans on your computer casing/cabinet(if any).

Step2: To Fix this, run a disk scan which checks for disc errors and fixes the bad sectors (some examples are scandisk and checkdisk utilities in windows). If there are bad sectors which can not be repaired, then you need to replace your hard disc.

Tip for better performance: Once there are no bad sectors and the disc scan is complete, do a de-fragmentation of your hard disc partition(this may take long time), it will help the computer to access files easily and computer runs better(also fast in some cases).
These three steps will fix your computer
hangs considerably.

Symantec launches online PC tech support services

1 comments Wednesday, October 15, 2008
Symantec on Tuesday announced two premium online services that help tweak the performance of PC desktops through remote access by qualified technicians.
Both services are only available to customers using Windows XP and Vista, and are open to customers not currently using any Norton products.
One is a diagnostic service called PC Checkup for $29.99. "Think of it like taking your car to the auto dealership service," said Lenny Alugas, vice president of Norton Premium Services. The technician will perform a series of tests then inform the customer if additional services are necessary. The second premium service, PC Tune Up, is more invasive. At $69.99, the technician will run a diagnostic, then fine-tune the operating system for performance. Both services include "next step" recommendations so that customers can be aware of the causes and take better care of their PCs in the future.
The market for these services, a Symantec representative said, a skewed toward a female audience that is technical but doesn't have the time to figure out a problem by themselves. In 2007 Consumer Reports found that 1.8 million U.S. households had junked their PCs over the past two years simply because of performance problems.
"The biggest competitor in the market is friends and families of people who need to have their computers fixed," said Alugas. Other competition includes small PC repair shops and some of the larger electronics retailers that have tech benches.
When asked how the services complement or compare with software already sold by Symantec, Alugas said, "In Norton 360, we will delete your Internet cache or empty your recycle bin, but we don't try to manage your start-up items." He described the services as much more interactive.
The two services, along with Norton technical support (which is now free), use LogMeIn Rescue, a remote access client, that allows the Norton technician to manipulate the PC while you watch. The technician can simultaneously chat via text with the customer, querying about the uses of particular unused applications in memory or on the hard drive itself. Nothing is done without the customer being aware, said Alugas.
He said the services grew out of an observation that customers would often call for Norton technical support, then discover it wasn't a Norton problem but something eating up all their RAM or that they didn't have as much hard drive space as they thought. The two online services are organic to Norton and not the product of a recent acquisition by Symantec.

Paging File

0 comments Monday, August 18, 2008
The paging file is the area on the hard disk that Windows uses as if it
were random access memory (RAM) This is sometimes known as "virtual
memory." By default, Windows stores this file on the same partition as
the Windows system files. You can increase the performance of Windows,
and increase free space on the boot partition, by moving this file to a
different partition.

How to Move the Paging File:
1. Log on to the computer as Administrator.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
4. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance, click Settings.
5. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Virtual memory, click Change.

6. In the Drive [Volume Label] list, click a drive other than the one
on which Windows is installed (Windows is usually installed on the drive
C). Under Total paging file size for all drives, note the value that
is displayed next to Recommended.
7. Click Custom size, and then type the recommended value in the
Initial size (MB) box.
8. Type the maximum size that you want to allow for paging in the
Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.
9. In the Drive [Volume Label] box, click the drive on which Windows is
installed (usually the drive C), and then use one of the following
steps:• If you do not want a paging file on the drive, click No paging
file, and then click Set. A message similar to the following message
appears:
If the pagefile on volume C: has an initial size of less than 126
megabytes, then the system may not be able to create a debugging information
file if a STOP error occurs.
Continue anyway?
Click Yes.

• If you want to keep the minimum size of the paging file on the drive,
click Custom size, and then type a value that is equal to or greater
than the amount of RAM in the computer in the Initial size (MB) box.
Type that same value in the Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.

10. The following message appears:
The changes you have made require you to restart your computer before
they can take effect.
Click OK, click OK, click OK, and then click Yes when you are prompted
to restart the computer.

Black Screen Error

0 comments Thursday, August 7, 2008
When you try to start Windows XP, the computer may appear to stop responding (hang) with an empty, black screen immediately after the power-on self test (POST) is complete and before the Windows XP logo typically appears on the screen.
CAUSE
This issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
Cause 1
This issue may occur if you have a CD, a DVD or a floppy disk in your CD, DVD, or floppy drive when you start the computer.
Cause 2
This issue occurs if one or more of the following elements are corrupted and will not load during the boot sequence of the computer:• Master boot record
• Partition tables
• Boot sector
• NTLDR file

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps.
Resolution for Cause 1
To resolve this issue, remove the media in your CD, DVD, or floppy drive and then restart the computer.
Method 1: Troubleshoot the specific element that causes Windows not to load
Note This option requires that you perform multiple steps to determine the exact element that causes the issue. This option may allow for you to keep customizations in Windows.1. Restart your computer in
safe mode. To do this, press the F8 key while Windows is starting. Then, create a Windows XP boot disk to start the computer.
If you can start the computer from the boot disk without receiving an error message, the damage is limited to the master boot record, the boot sector, or the NTLDR file. After Windows XP is running, immediately back up all data before you try to fix the boot sector.
Use Disk Management to view the partition information and to verify that the disk partition (or partitions) is correct. To use Disk Management, follow these steps: a. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
b. Expand Storage, and then click Disk Management.
If invalid partitions are present or you cannot start your computer by using a boot disk, consider reinstalling Windows XP on your computer and restoring your data and configuration information from a recent backup.
If you do not have a current backup copy of the data on the computer, contact a computer specialist to determine the best method of data recovery and configuration.
2. Run a current virus scanning program to verify that no virus is present.
3. Repair the master boot record by using the FIXMBR command from the Windows XP Recovery Console.
Warning If your computer is infected with a virus and you use the FIXMBR command, you may be unable to start the computer. Before you use this command, make sure that the computer is not infected with a virus.
4. If the primary boot partition is a FAT partition, use the FIXBOOT command from the Windows XP Recovery Console to write a new boot sector on the system partition, and then use the FIXMBR command to repair the master boot record.
Method 2: Repair your Windows installation
Note Repairing your Windows installation may change the configuration of Windows. You may also have to follow this step if you complete all the troubleshooting in steps option 1 and the problem is not resolved. 1. Use the Windows XP CD-ROM to start your computer. On the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to set up Windows XP.
2. Press F8 to agree to the license agreement.
3. Use the ARROW keys to select the Windows XP installation that you want to repair, and then press R.
Windows XP Setup repairs the installation files, Windows XP automatically restarts, and then the Setup program finishes the repair of your Windows XP installation.
4. Follow the remaining steps to set up Windows.
Note You must have your 25-character product key to complete these steps.
5. As soon as this issue is resolved, make sure that the firewall is enabled
6. Run a virus scan on the computer because problems with corrupted elements can be attributed to viruses.

How to Troubleshoot Windows XP Startup Problems

1 comments Tuesday, July 22, 2008
One of the most common troubleshooting problems in Windows XP is the failure of a system to start up properly. These failures can be caused by a number of issues, including poorly written or malicious software, faulty device drivers, hardware incompatibilities, corrupt or missing system files and incorrect system configurations. Determining the source of the problem, and fixing it, is easier if you use a methodical, step-by-step approach.
The first question that should be asked when troubleshooting startup problems for Windows XP is: What changed? If a user has just loaded new software, added new hardware, updated drivers or made a change to the system configuration, you should assume this was the cause of the issue until you have ruled it out by undoing the change. This includes operating system updates from Microsoft, which have been known to cause an occasional issue. If a recent change is not a potential cause of the startup failure, you should suspect hardware failure, viruses or malicious software or data corruption. Troubleshooting the issue will depend on the point at which startup fails. The further along in the startup process the failure occurs, the easier it is to troubleshoot and repair.
If the workstation starts normally and fails after logon
The problem may be related to a user profile, network logon script, application, driver or service. If the system produces an error message or blue screen, copy the message and check Microsoft's Knowledge Base to see if it is a known issue and if a workaround or patch exists. If the issue is not in Microsoft's database, try searching technical discussion groups, third-party sites or Usenet.
If you do not receive an error message, and the system simply hangs or continually restarts:
1. Try logging in with a different account. If this resolves the issue, the problem may be related to the user's profile, account profile, permissions or group policy settings. Start by checking the event log on the local machine by using the Microsoft Management Console.
2. Try logging with a local account. If this resolves the issue, the problem may be related to authentication, networking, logon scripts, drive mappings or related issues. Again, the workstation's event logs may provide additional clues to the cause of the failure.
3. Try booting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during startup and choosing Safe Mode from Windows Advanced Options Menu. Safe Mode loads Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services. If the problem still occurs, it is most likely related to corrupt or missing operating system files or hardware. If the problem does not occur, it is likely to be a driver, service or startup application issue.
4. Enable Bootlogging by pressing F8 during startup, and choosing Enable Bootlogging from the Windows Advanced Options Menu. Bootlogging is a diagnostic feature that will list every driver the operating system tries to load. It creates a text file named Ntdtlog.txt in the Windows directory that can be opened with Notepad. You can also check the status of your hardware devices using Device Manager, which can be accessed via the Microsoft Management Console, or by right clicking the My Computer icon, clicking Properties, selecting the Hardware tab, and clicking the button labeled "Device Manager." From the Device Manager menu, you can add, remove or disable hardware, as well as update or roll back drivers.
5. Perform a clean boot. A clean boot is similar to Safe Mode, except that it offers greater control of the boot process. Here are the steps:
o Logon onto the workstation using an account with Administrator privileges.
o Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
o On the General tab, select Selective Startup, and clear the checkmarks next to the Process System.ini, Process Win.ini File, and Load Startup Items. (Note: You will not be able to clear the "Use original Boot.ini" check box.)
o Next, click the Services tab and check the option to Hide All Microsoft Services. This option will display only the services started by non-Microsoft applications. Select the Disable All option. Click Apply, then click OK and reboot. WARNING: If you clear the Load System Services option on the General tab of the System Configuration Utility, or if you disable all Microsoft services on the Services tab, then all of the restore points for the System Restore utility are deleted.
o If the system starts normally, restart the msconfig utility, choose the General tab, and select the box to next Process System.ini File, click OK and restart the system. If the problem does not reoccur, repeat this step for the Process Win.ini File, Load Startup Items and Load System Services options. If the problem reoccurs, the last item enabled contains the source of the problem.
o If the problem reoccurs after selecting the Load System Services option, you can use the msconfig utility to load each service one at a time until you discover the source of the problem. Services can also be enabled or disabled via the Microsoft Management Console, or via the Computer Management Console.

Optimise your Internet Connection

There are lots of ways to do this but by far the easiest is to run TCP/IP Optimizer
Download and install
Click the General Settings tab and select your Connection Speed (Kbps)
Click Network Adapter and choose the interface you use to connect to the Internet
Check Optimal Settings then Apply
Reboot
Optimise Your Pagefile
If you give your pagefile a fixed size it saves the operating system from needing to resize the page file.
Windows XP sizes the page file to about 1.5X the amount of actual physical memory by default. While this is good for systems with smaller amounts of memory (under 512MB) it is unlikely that a typical XP desktop system will ever need 1.5 X 512MB or more of virtual memory. If you have less than 512MB of memory, leave the page file at its default size. If you have 512MB or more, change the ratio to 1:1 page file size to physical memory size.
Right click on My Computer and select Properties
Select the Advanced tab
Under Performance choose the Settings button
Select the Advanced tab again and under Virtual Memory select Change
Highlight the drive containing your page file and make the initial Size of the file the same as the Maximum Size of the file.

You may have noticed that every-time you open my computer to browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers every-time you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing significantly:

  • Open My Computer
  • Click on Tools menu

Click on Folder Options

  • Click on the View tab.
  • Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box
  • Click Apply
  • Click Ok
  • Reboot your computer

The Complete Guide To Optimising Windows XP

Beginners

  • Remove Annoying Delete Confirmation Messages
Although not strictly a performance tweak I love this fix as it makes my machine 'feel' faster. I hate the annoying 'are you sure?' messages that XP displays, especially if I have to use a laptop touchpad to close them. To remove these messages:
    • Right-click on the 'Recycle Bin' on the desktop and then click 'Properties'
    • Clear the 'Display Delete Confirmation Dialog' check box and click 'Ok'. If you do accidentally delete a file don't worry as all is not lost. Just go to your Recycle Bin and 'Restore' the file.

Disable Indexing Services
Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don't search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following:

  • Go to Start
  • Click Settings
  • Click Control Panel
  • Double-click Add/Remove Programs
  • Click the Add/Remove Window Components
  • Uncheck the Indexing services box
  • Click 'Next'

This normally only happens with accounts that have UNIX shells.

4. If you are not logged in on another machine or poplocked then someone may be using/downloading from your account or something is wrong with your account.
