Windows Cannot Find Msconfig Fix
0 comments Wednesday, October 29, 2008Following are the Causes:
- Msconfig.exe file is deleted due to file corruption, virus infection, or manually removed from its original folder.
- Its registry value was changed or removed.
Following methods can be tried to solve the issue:
Method 1:
- See if your system still has msconfig.exe on it. By default, msconfig.exe is located in the C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries folder.
- If it is missing on the folder, get a new copy of msconfig.exe file. Look for it on the internet through search engines and download it.
- Once you get a copy of it, place the file on C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries folder.
- Now, go to Start > Run and type msconfig and click OK.
If problem was not solved by the method 1, than go for Method 2.
Method 2:
- Open Registry Editor and see if the value for msconfig has been changed or is missing.
- To do this, Click Start > Run and type regedit then click OK.
- On the left pane of Registry Editor, double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ App Paths
- You should see a whole bunch of subfolders underneath for various applications. Look for MSCONFIG.EXE in that list.
- If you do not see it, create it by right-clicking on App Paths and going to New --> Key.
- You should now see a New Key #1. Change its name to MSCONFIG.EXE.
- Once you have done this, highlight MSCONFIG.EXE and look at the right side.
- In the Name column, you should see something with an "ab" icon that says (Default).
- In the Type Column, it should say REG_SZ.
- The Data column should have the correct path to the executable, C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe.
- If it does not, you can double-click where it says (Default) and fill in the correct value.
